Ink & Soul

Branding & UX design for a modern tattoo parlor experience.

Soul&Ink is a tattoo parlor concept I worked on as a branding and UX exercise. My goal was to create a modern tattoo booking and browsing experience while preserving the culture, creativity, and personal expression that define tattoo artistry. In addition, I aimed to push my creative ability by designing with different color options than what I normally use. I also used this as practice for creating renders and showcases for my work. I was experimenting with trying out a variety of tools such as the Figma Mockup plugin for renders and Jitter to animate my pages.

All the work and names mentioned in the concept are fictional and created using AI tools and stock images.

My Role

Brand Designer and UX/UI Designer

I led this solo project from concept to prototype. I created the brand identity, designed a logo, crafted artist profiles, and built out the site experience in Figma. I focused on balancing visual boldness with clarity.

Problem

There were 2 main problems I wanted to tackle. First, I wanted to create a tattoo parlor’s websites that avoids having an outdated, clunky, or hard to navigate layout. I wanted to make sure the artists’ portfolios aren’t buried, booking is easy, and users are left happy with the overall experience. I wanted to re imagine the digital presence of a tattoo studio that reflects the quality and individuality of its work.

Second, I wanted to push my ability to create. I hadn’t used darker pallets before and didn’t have the best way of displaying my work.

Approach

I started by researching independent tattoo parlors, especially those with strong online followings. I noted gaps in usability, especially around portfolio access, scheduling, and responsiveness.

Branding

I used online tools to generate the name of this business. I settled on the name “Soul Ink”. I created a minimal logo and played around with color palettes that I hadn’t used before. I ended up settling on a darker color scheme with golden yellow highlights.

Using Figma, I built high-fidelity screens for:
